Children were sent home from a Leicestershire village school amid concerns about an unsafe wall. Pupils at Hose Church of England Primary School, in Hose, north of Melton, were initially moved to a safe area on Wednesday (November 13) after a contractor told staff the wall had to be repaired.

The school then made the decision to close the school for the day. Headteacher Lianne Hough told LeicestershireLive nobody was hurt during the incident and that temporary support work was carried out to make the school safe. According to Leicestershire County Council, almost 50 students aged between four and 11 attend the school in Hose's Bolton Lane.

Mrs Hough said: “Concerns were raised about a wall on the site of the school and a contractor confirmed it needed to be repaired. Pupils were moved to a safe area and no-one suffered any injuries. The school was closed for the rest of the day.

“A temporary support structure was put in place to make the wall safe following advice from a specialist structural engineer and the school then reopened as normal on Thursday, November 14. The rest of the building has been checked and deemed secure.”

She added that work to permanently fix the wall will now take place outside of school hours to ensure disruption to pupils is kept to a minimum.
