Lena Dunham says weight loss not for 'internet trolls'

Girls actress and creator Lena Dunham has criticised people's obsession with her "ever-changing" body.

Dunham has recently made headlines for her dramatic new look, leaving many wondering if the star had undergone a special diet.

After joking in February she had President Donald Trump to thank for her weight loss, Dunham shared an Instagram post on Thursday saying the new look was "not a triumph".

"I feel I've made it pretty clear over the years that I don't give even the tiniest of s***** what anyone else feels about my body," she wrote.

"I've gone on red carpets in couture as a size 14. I've done sex scenes days after surgery, mottled with scars," she added.

"I've accepted that my body is an ever-changing organism, not a fixed entity - what goes up must come down and vice versa."

Dunham's body weight has often been the subject of online criticism by what she calls "internet trolls", but the actress has always addressed the topic associated with health and not body image.

"I smile just as wide no matter my current size because I'm proud of what this body has seen and done and represented. Don't we have infinitely more pressing news to attend to?" she asked.

"Right now I'm struggling to control my endometriosis through a healthy diet and exercise. So my weight loss isn't a triumph and it also isn't some sign I've finally given in to the voices of trolls," she added.

According to the NHS website, Endometriosis is "a common condition where tissue that behaves like the lining of the womb is found outside the womb".

"My body belongs to me," she added.

"At every phase, in every iteration, and whatever I'm doing with it, I'm not handing in my feminist card to anyone."
