The Walking Dead's Lennie James has discussed his character Morgan's switchover to sister-show Fear the Walking Dead.

The British actor has become a favourite amongst fans of the zombie drama, carrying psychological weight but also a complex backstory, and Morgan's introduction to the world of aikido in season 6 episode 4's 'Here's Not Here' remains a standout entry in The Walking Dead canon.

But, with Lennie James making the crossover to Fear the Walking Dead at the start of season 4, and his future on The Walking Dead still not entirely clear, the actor has opened up about why he made the jump over to the spin-off show, explaining that it gave him more screen time and the opportunity to investigate his character's psyche.

"The conversation I did have with Scott [M Gimple, former showrunner] when that was first proposed is that there were things that he wanted to explore with Morgan that would be difficult to shoehorn into The Walking Dead," James told ScreenRant ahead of the home video release of TWD season 8.

"And he thought that because of the smaller cast and the way that the stories are told on Fear that there would be a little more room for it."

Recently, the actor referenced how devastated Morgan would be following the loss of Rick Grimes when Andrew Lincoln leaves the role in the upcoming ninth season.

"The only person who knows Morgan that's left... Eastman's gone, Jenny's gone, Duane's gone. The only proof Morgan has that he is alive and in this world has been Rick," James explained.

"The only person who knows him is Rick, and so, in a weird way, wherever Rick is is home. And if he heads back there and Rick isn't there, then I think that very much rocks the foundations of who he is now in this world."

Fear the Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on AMC on BT TV in the UK, while The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, October 7 in the US. The series is available on FOX and NOW TV in the UK.
