Leonardo DiCaprio may have just inadvertently fuelled the rivalry between Marvel and DC by putting himself forward to play the legendary Stan Lee in a future biopic.

According to Stan Lee himself, anyway.

The comic book legend and former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics said that Leo is apparently well up for immortalising Stan's life on the big screen.

"Believe it or not, I've already discussed it with Leonardo DiCaprio," Stan said (via Adventure In Poor Taste), when asked about potential plans for a biopic.

"He's a neighbour of mine and we were talking one day some months ago, and he said, 'Boy, it'd be fun to do your story on the screen'," he added during a panel at Hasbro's HASCON.

Despite Leo's credentials, Stan warned that he'd have to go through the same process as everybody else. "I said, 'Well, I'll audition you'. Gotta make sure the guy can do it," he joked.

If Leo does ever end up playing Stan Lee, it might fan a few flames over at DC – where he's rumoured to be in the running to play the Joker in a new standalone movie.

Rumour has it that Warner Bros wants Martin Scorsese to produce the solo film, in the hope that he can get Leonardo on board to make his first ever comic book movie as the Joker.

Although that said, there are plenty of actors who've worked for both Marvel and DC down the years. We've got a whole gallery of them right here.
