Les Dennis is leaving the cobbled streets of Coronation Street next year - temporarily, anyway.

Les, who plays former burglar Michael Rodwell, will exit the show to focus on his role in Alan Bleasdale’s ‘Down The Dock Road’, which is being performed at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre.

Having already signed a contract to stay in Weatherfield, he’ll then return to the soap. Hurrah!

The Sun reports that Les said: “It’s a dream come true for me, but I will really be looking forward to get back to rekindle my soap role.

“I still pinch myself that I am in the show.”

Les isn’t the only one who’ll be taking a break from the soap in the New Year though.

Alison King - who plays Carla Connor, Brooke Vincent - who plays Sophie Webster - and David Neilson (Roy Cropper) will all be taking breaks from Corrie.

Sources say Brooke, who is contracted until the summer, has ‘absolutely no intention of leaving’, although she will be dipping her toes into the world of theatre next September for eight weeks.

According to the Daily Express, she recently said: “I wasn’t really that fussed, I got approached to do a play and I said ‘yes, let’s see what work say’.

“I really didn’t think they’d let me do it and they did and now everyone is saying they’ll have to come and watch. But I’m going to tell them the wrong date.”

The Mirror reports that Ryan Thomas - who plays Jason Grimshaw - has left, with Eileen Derbyshire - who plays Emily Bishop - also requesting time off.
