Musicians Rihanna and Cardi B have paid tribute to a 15-year-old boy stabbed to death in New York in a case of mistaken identity.

Cardi B, a Bronx native, donated $8,000 (£6,000) to the teenager's family, while Rihanna posted a message online that said she was "praying" for the teenager.

Police belive attackers mistook Lesandro Guzman-Feliz, known as Junior, for a man who appeared in an online sex tape with a relative of one of the suspects.

Both musicians posted a picture of the teenager.

Cardi B wrote that the "Bronx streets are ruthless" and called on people to donate to Mr Guzman-Feliz's GoFundMe page.

While Rihanna said: "Can't stop thinking about this poor baby boy, and how his family must feel right now! I'm sincerely praying for your healing and #justiceforjunior"

Mr Guzman-Feliz was dragged from a bodega on East 183rd and Bathgate Avenue in Tremont on June 20 at 11.40 pm and was repeatedly stabbed by multiple men with knives.

Police said Mr Guzman-Feliz was also stabbed in the neck with a machete during the horrific attack.

Following the fatal stabbing Mr Guzman-Feliz attempted to run to St Barnabas Hospital to seek treatment, but died from his injuries before he got there.

According to NYPD, arrests have been made but the investigation still remains active.
