A-level student worked through the night to help Grenfell Tower victims and returned after sitting exam

An A-level student who worked through the night helping victims of the Grenfell Tower fire later returned after sitting his exam.

Rory Walsh, 18, took a brief break to take his English language and literature exam after putting in hours on the relief effort.

He had woken in the early hours when flames tore through the block of flats overlooking his house.

Working at the Maxilla social club, he helped co-ordinate the mass of donations arriving and helped now-homeless families find shelter.

Then, at 8am, he made the journey to Richmond College, west London, for his exam – before coming back to help.

He said: ”I was here from two until eight.

“And then my exam was at Twickenham so I had to journey over there – I got there a little late – and sit it.

“I got extra time but I didn’t use it, I just came straight back to help out.

“I wasn’t going to go to the exam this morning but I thought I might as well and now we have just been running back and forth with shopping trolleys full of donations.”

Seventeen people have so far been confirmed dead after the blaze ripped through the tower block in Kensington, west London.

Many people are still missing, while the death toll is expected to rise.
