Leyton fire: Blaze rips through two storey warehouse sending huge plumes of smoke into the air

The London Fire Brigade descended on a warehouse in Leyton after a fire tore through the building.

Twenty engines and 120 firefighters responded to over 70 calls reporting of a fire at an industrial estate in Orient Way, Leyton at 5.22 am on Saturday.

The blaze ripped through the two storey building sending huge plumes of smoke into the air.

Shocking photos showed fire fighters attempt to tackle the fire.

Nearby residents were advised to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors shut until the smoke had subsided.

Currently it is not known what caused the fire.

Station Manager Rod Wainwright, who was at the scene, said: "There are large volumes of smoke.

"I would advise all nearby residents in the area to keep their doors and windows closed until the smoke plume has diminished."

Fire crews from Leytonstone, Homerton, Walthamstow, Stoke Newington, Stratford and surrounding fire stations are still at the scene.
