Leyton robbery: Jeep crashes into jewellery store and staff threatened with hammer in smash-and-grab

Staff at an east London jewellery store were threatened with a hammer after a Jeep was crashed into the shop in a smash-and-grab raid.

Police raced to the scene of the incident, which happened on a busy road in Leyton, shortly after 4pm on Tuesday.

A vehicle was driven through the front of A&R Gold in Church Road, near the junction with Led Bridge Road.

A quantity of jewellery was stolen, and the suspects fled on foot, Scotland Yard said.

Paramedics also attended and treated a man for shock.

A Met Police spokesman said: "The Met's Flying Squad are investigating.

"No arrests and enquiries continue."
