Lia White's quirky take on Cyndi Lauper divides fans

Lia White was given the task to sing 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' on The Voice UK Knockout round tonight (March 11).

However, even she agreed that the Cyndi Lauper classic had been covered to death – I mean, how many covers can one song take?

Lia therefore decided to do her own spin on it, though we think will.i.am was secretly pleased that his contestant was doing her own thing with it.

Taking on a more low-key, Fugees-esque version of the tune, Lia got a largely positive reception from the coaches.

"You're adorable, so precious," Jennifer Hudson said. "That was the perfect song for you. Just makes you happy to be a girl, girl."

The coach also remarked that Lia reminded her of Solange and Aaliyah, comparing her to both.

"[The song] had been done to death, but it was really smart to take it your own way," Gavin Rossdale remarked.

Will added: "I'm really proud of you, because you were initially uncomfortable singing this song. You reimagined it and made it Lia."
