Liam Gallagher would rather rely on wheelchair than go through with hip surgery for arthritis

Liam Gallagher has admitted he would rather rely on a wheelchair than go through with hip replacement surgery to treat his arthritis.

The 49-year-old Roll With It singer has been battling chronic pain caused by the joint condition for several years, but confessed he is scared of having an operation to help ease his symptoms, because it involves breaking his hips.

Gallagher told Mojo magazine: “I asked the lady what the downside was: ‘You might die in surgery. It’s a one in a million chance.’ F*** off. I’m not going to crisp it having my hip cracked, thank you.

"I’d rather be in a wheelchair with Debbie pushing me around, like Little Britain.”

The former Oasis singer was comparing himself and girlfriend of 10 years Debbie Gwyther to David Walliams and Matt Lucas' sitcom characters Lou and Andy.

Gallagher said a doctor had diagnosed his arthritis as "bad" and described his own bones as "mashed up". He admitted he was in a lot of pain and struggled to sleep at night.

The Stand By Me singer said: "I'm definitely on the downwards slide. My eyes are f***ed, my hips are f***ed, got the old thyroid. When the weather’s cold my hips are like, snap, crackle and pop . I need warmth.

“I can’t sleep at night for the pain, tossing and turning. So I’m on the herbal sleeping tablets and they’ve saved my life. One of them: seven hours out – no pain, nothing."

But Gallagher admitted he felt there was a "stigma" to having a hip replacement, despite admitting that if he had the operation it would "fix" him and he would be able to, "do it all".

The Slide Away singer said he would rather endure the pain because it, "Keeps you on your toes."

He added: “But it’s also the stigma, saying you’ve had your hips replaced... What’s next?”

In 2019 the Live Forever singer told Q Magazine he was having acupuncture to treat his arthritis — because he felt it was "rock 'n' roll".

Gallagher said: "This geezer is mega, he doesn’t f*** about. He gets the needles and whacks them in.

"He sorts it but it keeps coming back. Acupuncture is alright, at least it’s needles.
