Liam Payne is reportedly in the running for a part in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming remake of musical West Side Story.

The Jurassic Park director is reportedly taking on the film next year and the First Time singer is thought to be considering following in the steps of fellow bandmate Harry Styles, who had a role in Dunkirk.

A source told the Sun: “Liam was approached and was naturally flattered to be considered.

“Casting agents have been ordered to find singers between the ages of 15 and 25 who can also dance, while also being able to deliver lines.

“Liam sees the opportunity to work with Spielberg as an exciting prospect and one too good to turn down.”

It is believed that Payne’s role would see him feature as one of the Jets and potentially even one of the leaders Riff or Tony.

Standard Online has contacted representatives of Liam Payne for comment.

According to the publication, Hollywood mogul Spielberg felt it was the right time for the iconic 1961 film to be remade.

West Side Story bagged 10 Oscars when it was first released, including best director, film, supporting actress and actor.

The potential career shift comes after Payne split from Cheryl who he shares one-year-old son Bear with.

He opened up about the break-up in a Vodafone Big top 40 interview, saying he is “feeling okay” but it still “a bit fragile at times”.

The Familiar singer said: “No I’m alright you know, it’s been okay. Obviously there’s a lot of stuff I’ve still got to sort out with my life.

“Obviously we’ve broken up and then it was like a couple of days or a couple of weeks before we actually like put the announcement out and that’s the bit when it really hits home I guess.

“But at the same point it’s like breaking up twice like, we already did this once and now I’m having to go through all of that again.”
