Speaking for the first time since the news broke of Liam Payne's tragic death, his ex Cheryl Tweedy shared a heartwarming image of late Liam and their son Bear.

In the black and white picture, the former One Direction star can be seen gazing lovingly into his son's eyes as they lie in bed together. Bear was only one when Liam and Cheryl split, but it's clear the singer had always prioritised his son, even in dark times, Birmingham Live reports.

Taking to Instagram on Friday (October 18), Cheryl expressed her heartbreak for their son who will never see his father again.

Liam tragically fell to his death from a third floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The singer was one of the biggest stars in the world, starting from his early X Factor days to becoming a member of one of the most successful boybands of all time, One Direction.

He became a dad at 23 and amassed a vast fortune, estimated to be around £46million. In an emotional interview in 2022, Liam revealed that he had set up several companies for Bear's future, saying: "My life now is his, my money is his.

"I have actually got several companies that are up and running that I know he can run one day if he wants to or [he can sell them].", reports the Mirror.

Previously, Liam contributed to the £4 million purchase of Cheryl and Bear's home in in the Buckinghamshire village of Chalfont St Peter. Following the couple's split, Liam bought himself a home nearby.

Discussing his co-parenting arrangement with Cheryl, Liam praised her as "the best mum in the world" and expressed gratitude for her allowing him "full autonomy" to focus on his career and later address his mental health struggles, while she took care of Bear.

He also thanked Cheryl for supporting him during tough times, particularly when he disclosed he spent 100 days in a Louisiana rehab facility after reaching "rock bottom". He confessed: "More than anything, I want to say thank you to [Bear] and his mum for giving me a little bit of freedom to go and get well in that moment because I had to."

When asked how often he sees Bear in 2022, Liam responded: "I see him two times a week, three times a week sometimes. And I make sure when I see him, he has 100 percent of my time. I make sure that I'm not on my phone or d*****g around somewhere else.

"So, I like to give him those moments and it's important, he needs that in his life. He needs his dad in his life, and I'm happy he looks at me like a superhero, and I'm hoping to keep it that way."

In one of his final posts, Liam calls Bear his "mini me". Tragically, Liam's own father Geoff Payne was spotted at the scene of his death in Argentina.

He was spotted in a sharp navy suit leaving the hotel and is understood to have travelled to Argentina to handle the repatriation of his son's body.
