From Digital Spy

We just don't know who or what to believe right now. Liar has posed the puzzling mystery of an alleged sexual attack by Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd) on Laura (Joanne Froggatt), as both seem so believable.

So what actually happened? And could both of them be technically telling the truth?

Here's all we're thinking about right now:

1. Who is Denis Walters?

Why, it's Peter Davison! Denis phoned Andrew out of the blue to tell him that he can help his case, and that Laura has done "something like this" before.

Assuming he's a real person rather than some nutter who'll just come around Andrew's house for no reason, who is he to Laura?

He's considerably older than Laura, so perhaps he was her old teacher? He didn't elaborate, but it's fair to assume that at some point, Laura – rightly or wrongly – claimed that Denis in some way assaulted her. And considering he's not in jail and he claims to be able to help Andrew, chances are that charges were dropped.

Though, as Laura herself pointed out, only around 5% of all such cases reach an actual conviction.

2. Is Laura capable of lying?

It appears so, yes. For the first time, we saw Laura telling a fib to get out of trouble. When the police came over to tell her that Andrew's home had been searched and that all they found was a vial of insulin – which she had earlier found after getting into his house, thinking it was GHB – she told the officers that she had no idea what they were talking about.

Having said that, we still believe that someone, either Andrew or someone else, definitely attacked her, but she's unintentionally getting the facts wrong.

3. Was that the housekeeper?

Just after Laura broke into Andrew's house (via the key he told her that he always leaves under a gnome), another older woman walked out of the house with her headphones blaring.

We're assuming that this person was the Earlham's housekeeper? But if not, who is she and what was she doing there? Could she have planted other evidence? Nah, probably just the housekeeper.

4. Who is this new teacher fella?

This week, we were introduced to Laura's teacher colleague named Birav.

Are we being paranoid, or was he overly concerned about her? Could he be secretly in love with Laura and craving her attention? Or is he just a nice guy who's been planted as a red herring?

5. Why is Tom getting so involved?

Considering that he's just been dumped by Laura and is secretly having an affair with her sister, Tom seems a tad too involved with the case. Sure, they've been friends for years, but why is he risking his career to try and get Andrew arrested?

He also told police that he believed Andrew to be "dangerous", but how does he know? Is it because he has something to hide, other than his affair?

6. Who was texting Laura?

It's easy to assume that the anonymous texter telling Laura that they "know" she's "lying", and that she "knows" who they are is Denis.

But could this be someone entirely different? Either someone we've yet to meet or a character hiding in plain sight?

7. Why did Andrew's wife kill herself?

After doing some snooping, Tom revealed that Andrew's late wife not only took her own life, but that there had been complaints of some kind of domestic violence between the pair before she died, and that neighbours were concerned for their safety.

Not only that, but the cop in charge of the case said that he felt that there was something dodgy about Andrew at the time.

Do we believe what Tom is saying? And if he's right, what happened between Andrew and his wife years ago?

Liar continues at 9pm on Monday on ITV.
