What began as a gripping examination of sexual assault morphed into a Who Dunit in Liar's last scene as vile rapist Andrew Earlham (Ioan Gruffudd) mysteriously turned up dead just as police were closing in on him.

With both Gruffudd and his co-star Joanne Froggatt returning for the next run, writers Harry and Jack Williams have promised that answers definitely lie ahead in the search for Andrew's killer.

"We're delighted there will be a second series and we've written a bit of it already. We don't want to do it cynically – it will be a new set of lies and perceptions," The Mirror quotes Jack as saying.

"We want to give ourselves time, it will probably be the year after next. I hope people feel happy to wait."

Jack continued: "We hope people feel we told the story we set out to tell – of who was lying about Laura's rape. We've raised several more questions with this ending but for those who feel it's a cruel cliffhanger that asks too many questions, fear not, it's coming back for another series."

His brother Harry chimed in: "There are certainly a few suspects and we hope to explore that further. Andrew has been missing for several weeks and then we see his dead body in the empty marshlands. The question is: what happened in those missing weeks that led to Andrew's demise."

The only downside is that fans will be waiting quite some time to see the Who Killed Andrew storyline play out on telly.

An ITV spokesperson has confirmed to Digital Spy that Liar won't begin production on its second series until January 2019. So, that's plenty of time for you to work on your fan theories!
