Libby Squire's parents speak of 'unending torture' as they release new photo of missing student

The parents of missing student Libby Squire have spoken of their “unending torture and hope” three weeks after she vanished on her way home from a night out.

Thursday marked 21 days since Hull University student disappeared after she was turned away by door staff a the city's Welly nightclub.

The 21-year-old was last seen getting into a taxi which police say dropped her off near her home in at about 11.30pm on 1 February.

She was later spotted on a bench nearby and police believe she was in the area until 12.09am . She has not been seen or heard from since.

Her parents Lisa and Russ Squire have again appealed for anyone with information to step forward.

The couple also released a new image of Ms Squire with her mum.

They said: “It’s been three weeks now since our beautiful girl was last seen. In that time we haven’t been able to speak to her, and we haven’t been able to hug her. We haven’t been able to tell her we love her, or hear that she loves us. She went out to have fun with her beloved friends.

“Since then it has been a time of unending torture for her friends and family but we all have unending hope that she will be found.”

Hundreds of volunteers have helped police and coastguard teams carry out extensive searches for the student.

CCTV footage emerged earlier this month which showed a man getting in and out of a car around the same time of Ms Squire’s disappearance, close to where she was last seen.

The video appears to show a man sitting with his legs out the driver’s side door of a parked vehicle minutes after the last sighting of the 21-year-old.

The man then leaves the car, before returning a minute and a half later to open the front passenger side door.

He then moves around before getting behind the wheel and driving away.

This week police released a CCTV video of four potential witnesses they want to speak to.

The clip shows a cyclist, a pedestrian and a pair walking together in the early hours of 1 February, the last day the 21-year-old was seen.

Officers said they all appeared to have come from the direction of areas including the playing fields where investigators have conducted searches.

Police have scaled down the high visibility searches for Ms Squire which have been taking place in public view, however the investigation continues with 50 detectives working on the case.

A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with Ms Squire's disappearance but appeared in court charged with unrelated offences.

Pawel Relowicz appeared at Hull Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded not guilty to voyeurism, outraging public decency and burglary.

He was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Hull Crown Court on 11 March.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Our investigation is ongoing and active, and one man continues to remain under investigation while we further our inquiries.”

Libby, who is 5ft 7 and has long dark brown hair, was wearing a black leather jacket, black long sleeved top, and a black denim skirt with lace on the night of her disappearance.
