Dancing On Ice contestant Liberty Poole called 111 this week after she spotted a maggot wriggling around in her takeaway meal.

The 22-year-old reality TV star told fans on Instagram that she feared she might "die from bacterial poisoning" after eating some of the food before noticing the insect.

Poole shared a grotesque image of the critter on her Stories, showing her 1.5 million followers what had happened and explaining that she "felt sick" when she found it.

"I'm a bit traumatised from last night. So imagine, I ordered a takeaway and there was a maggot in the takeaway and I don't think I'm going to get a delivery again. Honestly, it was disgusting," said the Love Island star.

She added: “I ended up calling 111 because I happened to be in the bath and I thought that I might die from bacterial poisoning."

Poole said the call operator reassured her that there was very little danger of anything being wrong with her and the star confessed she was "a bit dramatic" to seek medical attention.

"At least it was 111 not 999, imagine. So always call 111 not 999 if you think there might be a problem," she said.

Poole added: "Tonight, I'm going to live life to the full because I haven't died from bacterial poisoning."

After her star-making run on Love Island last summer, Poole recently took part in Dancing On Ice until she and professional partner Joe Johnson were eliminated last week.

The star received mixed comments from the judges after she and Johnson took a tumble during their performance, which was set to Right Round by Flo Rida feat. Kesha.

The remaining contestants will take to the ice on Sunday night, performing skating routines to various hits from musicals.

One of the favourites to win the competition, Brendan Cole, is set to skate alongside male professional Brendyn Hatfield after his usual partner Vanessa Bauer tested positive for COVID-19.
