'Lightning Insanity' Illuminates Nebraska Skies

An eye-popping timelapse published on Twitter showed the “lightning insanity” that occurred as a supercell thunderstorm struck north-central Nebraska on May 29.

“The timelapse consists of 125 individual still images,” Alexander Spahn told Storyful. “I have been storm chasing for five years and this was one of the most electric storms I have ever witnessed.”

The lightning was part of a tornado-warned supercell thunderstorm that hit Chambers, Nebraska, on the night of May 29.

Spahn originally published the footage on his Twitter account, where he referred to the natural phenomenon as “lightning insanity.” Credit: Alexander Spahn via Storyful
