Lil Baby’s ‘Low Down’ serves as inspiration for TikTokers: ‘I promised my mom a house’

March Madness is almost at its end, but the yearly basketball tournament has given us drama, amazing basketball moments and a trending meme.

Kansas State’s men’s basketball team, who made it to the Elite Eight, went viral after their Round of 32 wins against the Kentucky Wildcats for celebrating in the locker room to Lil Baby’s “Low Down.”

The Wildcats played the song while clapping to the beat, watching head coach Jerome Tang danced along. “Low Down” became the anthem for Kansas State throughout the tournament, as fans joked about the team playing the song before and after games.

Although Kansas State was knocked out of the tournament, the hype behind “Low Down” — which was released in 2020 — is growing and is now a trending song on TikTok.

TikTokers are using it to motivate themselves, just as the Kansas State Wildcats did in the tournament.

“When i’m thinking about dropping out but remember i promised to get my mom her dream car,” wrote @fel1ix.___.

He wasn’t the only one feeling the pressure of their promises.

“I promised my mom a house,” said @kabriellaa.

“My mom got a video of me when I was little promising to buy her dream car,” replied @luv4rinnn.

Sometimes the motivation isn’t about promises, but rather made-up rivalries between families.

“Getting sleepy but I remember that i’m in an imaginary competition with my cousins to be the most successful Grandchild,” said @uhhmarion.

On the other hand, some people have just decided to have fun with the sound.

“Me pretending I’m in a music video in my mirror while my music blasts through my whole house,” wrote @ashleynewman in her post.

“Low Down” debuted at No. 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart back in 2020, but don’t be surprised to see the song rising up again now that people are playing it to keep themselves going.
