Rapper Lil Peep died after suffering an overdose of prescription drug Xanax, authorities have confirmed.

The 21-year-old musician, real name Gustav Åhr, who had a cult online following and had just released his debut album, was found dead on his tour bus ahead of a concert on Wednesday night.

Police in Tucson, Arizona have said that evidence found on the bus suggested that an overdose of the anti-anxiety medication was the cause of death.

The results of the toxicology tests are expected to take six to eight weeks, but the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office said that a drug overdose was “likely.”

The rapper and YouTube star’s death was confirmed by his manager Chase Ortega on Wednesday night, in a tweet saying that he had been “expecting this call for a year”.

Actress Bella Thorne, who once dated the musician, paid an emotional tribute to him in an Instagram video on Wednesday night.
