Lilac is the shade to wear this spring

It's fair to say that when we discovered Pantone's colour of 2018 was 'Ultra Violet' we were all a little dubious.

However luckily, for those of us still unsure about the bright hue, three months into the year and it seems the shade has simmered down to a more subtle (and spring-appropriate) lilac.

Now, this is a colour we can now totally get onboard with, after all, who can resist a pastel shade?

Our first hint at the on-trend hue was Victoria Beckham's Spring/Summer 2017 collection, which featured a plethora of light purple designs in crushed velvet.

This then developed during VB's Spring/Summer 2018 collection, which saw elegant tailored suits and ethereal sheer dresses hit the catwalk - as well as brands such as Tom Ford, Tibi, Alberta Ferretti, Michael Kors and Bottega Veneta get on board the purple band wagon.

The refreshing hue also had a strong representation during the most recent fashion month, as the streets of New York, Milan, London and Paris were awash with shades of lilac and lavender.

Moreover, many are now dubbing the shade a replacement to the much-loved (and now slightly over used) millennial pink.

In case you are wondering how to inject the new shade into your wardrobe here are five of the best ways to wear the shade.

1. Purple Suit

Follow in the footsteps of VB and don a feminine powder power suit.

Whilst she wore her own design (obviously) the streets of Milan were filled with a number of other fitted purple suits, which never failed to look downright dreamy.
