Lilah Parsons Reveals MTV Asked Her To Be Less ‘Granny Chic’ When She First Started - EXCLUSIVE

After teasing the collection for ages, last night saw Cointreau host the launch of the Yumi SS16 Lilah Parsons capsule collection.

A whole host of celebrities turned up to support Lilah at the launch, including Millie Mackintosh, Donna Air, Diana Vickers, Lucy and Tiffany Watson and Zoe Hardman.

Lilah herself looked stunning at the launch, rocking a red, long-sleeved, patterned dress from her new collection.

When we grabbed the presenter for a quick chat, she admitted that MTV had an, erm, alternative description for her style when she first started working there.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her new collection, she exclusively told Yahoo Celebrity UK: “[I get inspiration from] all over. Obviously clothes that I love wearing, clothes that I love other people wearing, but also I looked at Paris and that whole Parisian chic that the girls out there have that I aspire to achieve endlessly and never quite do!

“It’s quite simple, quite ladylike. Paris meets Little House on the Prairie! Lots of high collars and a few long sleeves. I feel like it’s the sort of collection boys would look at and be like ‘ew’.

“Someone earlier was like, ‘I love how you’re doing this whole Dot Cotton thing, Lilah’! It’s fine. It reminds me, when I first started at MTV they said to me, ‘can you be a bit less granny chic, please?’

“I quite like granny chic, it’s fine.”

If Lilah’s style is granny chic, count us in!

Explaining that the range, which features tailored suits, denim pieces, gorgeous floral patterns, pops of colour and chic white pieces, is something she’s always wanted to do, she also revealed how she’s been juggling designing the range, presenting, DJing and everything else.

She told us: “It’s fingers in many pies. I’m doing different things each week which is fun but sometimes I do feel that I could do with, like, a nanny to tell me where I’m supposed to be and what I’m supposed to be doing and, I don’t know, maybe remind me that I need to wash my hair or wash my clothes.

“I keep saying this every year, my new year’s resolution will be to be more organised. I always feel a bit all over the place but I love doing all the different things.”

Revealing her plans for next year, she added: “A lot more radio, I’d love to do. If Yumi will have me, I’d love to do an autumn/winter collection for them but who knows, we’ll have to see if anyone buys this one first!

“I go to London Fashion Week but I’d love to go to Paris Fashion Week because I’ve never done that. We’ll see, hopefully further opportunities will arise.”

Congratulations on the new collection, Lilah! We have no doubt that it will sell like hot cakes (we’ll take one of everything, please).
