Lily Allen angers 'Leave' supporters with string of anti Brexit tweets

Singer Lily Allen has angered Brexiters for sharing a string of pro-EU messages slamming leave voters and the Government for triggering Article 50.

The star, who is known for her anti-Tory views, posted a series of Tweets on so-called Brexit Day warning the poor “are about to get poorer”.

PM Theresa May’s divorce letter was delivered to EU President Donald Tusk on Tuesday, starting proceedings for the UK to leave the EU within two years.

‘Smile’ singer Allen shared a photo on social media with words addressed to Brexit-voters which read: “From tomorrow YOU are responsible for everything bad that happens to the UK.

“Every job lost, every jump in inflation, every drop in living standards, every devaluation of the pound, every bankruptcy, every factory closure, every NHS waiting list.”

The list continued before telling Brexiters: “You will have to take responsibility for YOUR Brexit delusions and misjudgements, you can no longer blame the EU or Remainers or anyone but yourselves.”

She also responded to a critic calling her a “silly girl” with the words: “Guess who profits from economic uncertainty? Clue: IT ISN’T POOR PEOPLE.”

Another photo aiming to mock the letter sent to the EU Council president, read: "If you're reading this it's too late."

The Hammersmith-born singer, 31, is known for being vocal on Twitter and criticising the Conservative government and some of the media.

She is also a fervent anti-Trump campaigner, appearing at a rally held in London following the US President’s inauguration in January.

Critics of the star flooded her with messages hitting out at her tweets and celebrating Brexit.

One Twitter user, Connor Potter, said: “What does she know about hard graft. When she gets a real job she’ll understand.”

Kenneth McTavish said: “You silly silver spooned little girl, don’t try to connect with the working class.”

Other Brexit voters shared their celebrations with her on Twitter and said Brexit would bring the opposite of the doom and gloom that she predicted.

One Twitter user, Richard Harrington, said: "When this doesn't happen, when the reverse happens, then you will need to apologise and thank us."
