A man has been left with “life-changing” injuries after being knocked down in an east London hit-and-run.

Police were called to Commercial Road at the junction with Belgrave Street, near Limehouse station, just after 1.15am on Friday after reports of a crash.

Officers and paramedics found a 39-year-old man lying in the road with serious injuries.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “He was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a serious condition, described at potentially life-changing but not life-threatening.”

Police say the car which struck the man did not stop at the scene.

Detectives from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.

They want to speak to anyone who saw the collision or a black car speeding away from the area.

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8597 4874 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
