SCOTT Lindsey is calling for bravery from his Swindon Town side as they go in search of their first points of the Sky Bet League Two season on Saturday.

The head coach's reign began in ignominious fashion last weekend as Town were beaten 3-0 at unfancied Harrogate on the opening day.

They will be back in front of their own supporters when Salford City visit the County Ground (3pm) and Lindsey wants to see his team on the front foot regardless of the scoreline.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Lindsey said: “The way play we need to braver anyway before we go behind.

“I’m asking them to play possession-based football, we want them to be brave with the ball.

“But of course, when it turns over we want them to be braver as well and to try and win it back as soon as they can.

“When they go behind we want to see a positive reaction not a negative one.

“I don’t think there were any negative reactions after the first goal (at Harrogate).

“Probably the second one, the shoulders dipped a bit and the third one has come late in the game.

“Do we give the ghost up? I don’t think we give the ghost up, but at 3-0 you kind of you want to stay in the game as much as you can.

“We want to be braver, but I feel we want to be braver before we go behind, we want to be braver from the off.”

Goals from Alex Pattison, Matty Daly, and Jack Muldoon – coupled with a missed penalty from Ben Gladwin – consigned Town to a first opening-day defeat since 2013.

After the game midfielder Jonny Willams also called for courage from his team-mates.

Lindsey admitted that his side “got worse the longer the game went on.”

He said: “I don’t think the team were a week short because you could see in the first half how we played.

“I thought we were really good in the first half, but I think the goal probably knocked us as it came just before half-time.

“I still think we played reasonably well in that first half, and if one of those chances goes in then it’s a different game."
