Line of Duty star Martin Compston wants to build up your sense of anticipation for series 5 – he's seen the first episode's script, and is full of high praise.

AC-12's sharpest waistcoat-wearing detective Steve Arnott and his colleagues will be back on the BBC in 2019, with the squad primed to unravel another conspiracy after the shocking Balaclava Man revelation that wound up series four.

Now, obviously Martin can't show the general public much beyond the first page of the script – that might get him into a bit of bother – but here is some proof it exists, as shared to his Instagram page:

"Even better on second read," Martin wrote. "Mr Mercurio has done it again. Gonna be some ride can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again."

So, what else do we know so far about Line of Duty series 5, apart from the 2019 premiere date and the fact that episode one comes from (of course) the pen of series creator Jed Mercurio?

Well, Martin also recently let slip that filming will start in Belfast this September, joking: "Hopefully, I survive it… you never know."

He added that if Mercurio did decide to kill off Steve, "I'd be gutted to go but if he decided it was the right time to go, then you got to trust him."

And for absolutely everything *else* that you need to know about Line of Duty series 5... well, we've got a page all about that.

Line of Duty is due to return to BBC One during 2019.
