Line Of Duty teaser trailer confirms series five will air 'very soon'

Line Of Duty fans were bubbling over with excitement on Tuesday after a new teaser trailer revealed the drama is back “very soon”.

The 15-second trailer sees Superintendent Ted Hastings, played by Adrian Dunbar, confirm that there is corruption within the force and rooting it out will prove the hardest task yet.

“AC-12 is being met with an institutional cover up. We’ll get to the root of this,” he says before Sergeant Kate Fleming – played by Vicky McClure – questions what the “root” is.

The last frame shows DS Steve Arnott, played by Martin Compston, brandishing a gun in the direction of a target.

BBC tweeted that the show is back “very soon”, although apologised for not being able to give fans a date, while Compston teased “not long now” as he shared a filming snap.

Although the teaser was brief, it proved to be enough to get fans excited for the Jed Mercurio police drama as they told the broadcaster they “cannot wait”.

Filming on the fifth series started last September, with actor Stephen Graham joining the cast as Balaclava Man.

At the end of series four, the realm of “bent coppers” was revealed to be a rot running deeper than AC-12 first anticipated.

While not much is known about the plot of the next run of episodes, it is clear that corruption is at the centre of things.

Writer Mercurio, who also penned smash hit Bodyguard, teased that the series will feature “things they haven’t done before” when it returns to screens soon, promising “new characters” at the forefront.

Line Of Duty will return to BBC One later this year.
