ITV's synopsis adds: "The series turns the spotlight on counter terrorism policing and the extraordinary work of the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad. When a terrorist campaign threatens the capital over the summer, the Expos are at the forefront of urgent efforts to find out who is behind the bombings before fatalities escalate….."

Back in April, Vicky McClure posted a picture of the show's script on Instagram, announcing how pleased she was to be "back in business" with Mercurio.`

So if you were a fan of Vicky McClure's portrayal of DI Kate Fleming in Line Of Duty, and your heart was in your mouth during the opening bomb disposal scene of Bodyguard, Trigger Point is perfect for you.

Trigger Point: What's it about?

"Set in contemporary London, Trigger Point, is a high-octane six-part thriller series focusing on the Bomb Disposal Squad. Known as “Expo”, officers risk their lives daily on ‘the long walk’ towards danger. Death is always just a heartbeat away," ITV said.

Vicky McClure (Line of Duty, I Am Nicola) will play front line officer Lana Washington, who is an experienced bomb disposal operative. Reckless and out of control, Lana is ex-military and pushed to breaking point dealing with a series of improvised explosive devices which threaten the capital during a terrorist summer campaign.

Under extreme pressure and searching for answers, Lana can’t help but become suspicious that the bomber is premeditatedly targeting her unit. It’s a terrifying thought, but against all odds how does she prove it and discover the bomber’s real identity?

Adrian commented: "I’m really looking forward to partnering with Vicky on this great new series. Jed Mercurio’s material is always great. This series is ambitious and challenging which is why it’s exciting to be a part of the team."

ITV Head of Drama, Polly Hill, added: “Trigger Point has you on the edge of your seat from the start. It's a brilliant script by Daniel and I can't believe this is his first commission. I'm delighted to be working with Jed who knows better than anyone how to bring these thrillers to screen and Vicky is the perfect Lana. It's a fabulous team and an exciting show for ITV.”
