Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has paused her wedding plans following the death of her mother.

Riley, who plays Mandy Dingle in the long-running soap, has been engaged to her partner Al since 2018 but has stopped planning for the wedding.

Riley says the day "would no longer be special" without her mother who died of cancer in 2012.

The actor told The Mirror: "There would be an empty seat and I wonder how I would cope."

She also said she never set a date for the wedding as she found it too "painful" as her mother died in her arms aged just 57.

Riley also discussed her current relationship with her fiance, who she has been with for seven years: "I already call him my husband and he calls me his wife. We just haven't gone down the aisle and got the ring and the paperwork."

She said there was no desire to marry as "their lives are great as they are".

Despite that, Riley did open up about the possibility in the near future as the couple got on so great in lockdown.

She said: "I wouldn't rule out us getting married next year at all. It will be incredibly simple - I love the idea of keeping it intimate, with just our nearest and dearest there and nothing flamboyant."
