Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez showed a cool head after Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Little could separate the two teams in the opening half an hour but out of nowhere, the Reds took the lead after a mix-up at the back. A hopeful ball forward looked to be dealt with by Josko Gvardiol but inexplicable his header back to Stefan Ortega had too much on it, looping over the German's head and allowing Garnacho to tap home into an empty net.

The goal sparked jubilant scenes at Wembley Stadium with the young Argentinian sliding in front of the City fans before continuing his celebrations. As this was going on, the Blues argued that there was an offside in the build-up but referee Andy Madley waved away those concerns.

After it became clear the goal was going to stand, Garnacho continued to taunt the City fans by kissing the United badge in front of them but spotting that this was not the right time to goad the opposition, Martinez intervened to push him back towards the centre circle. A brilliant first half for United was capped ten minutes later as they added a second.

Garnacho this time played provider as his cross was expertly played on by Bruno Fernandes and slotted home by Kobbie Mainoo who also took the opportunity to celebrate in front of the City fans. Should United be victorious this afternoon they will qualify automatically for the Europa League next season.
