List of 44 free events taking place in Nottinghamshire for Heritage Open Days
More than 40 free events are taking place in Nottinghamshire this week, offering locals and visitors an array of experiences ranging from hidden treasures to unique adventures. The events are perfect for those looking to have quality time with family and friends whilst indulging in a bit of learning.
The much-anticipated Heritage Open Days festival started on Friday, September 6 and will run until Sunday, September 15. While the majority of these activities don't require pre-bookings and will be held at various times, some will be exclusive to certain days.
This year, the theme of 'routes, networks, and connections' takes centre stage, and attendees will get to enjoy a line-up featuring enthralling exhibitions, stunning shows, and engaging tours curated specifically for this annual event. Newark and Sherwood district takes the spotlight with 23 events, alongside a variety of happenings set within and around the city of Nottingham.

Councillor Rowan Cozens, deputy leader and portfolio holder for heritage, culture and the arts at Newark and Sherwood District Council, expressed enthusiasm about the district's involvement: "I am delighted we are able to be part of this amazing programme to celebrate how special the place we live really is."
Highlighting the inclusivity and educational aspect of the festival, Councillor Cozens said, "The Heritage Open Days programme has a variety of events for the whole family, from art exhibitions to guided tours, it's a fun and interactive way to learn all about our town's history.", reports Nottinghamshire Live.
It's underscored that the initiative plays a crucial role in not only entertaining but also attracting crowds to the county's town centres.
