List of Derbyshire school closures as county wakes up to heavy overnight snowfall

People were waking up to the first snowfall of the year this morning with appreciable falls up to 10cms and more in some places making treacherous driving and walking conditions. As a result, and because of difficult conditions on site, an increasing number of schools announced they would not be opening today (Tuesday, November 19).

Parents were advised to check with schools or use the school's accepted method for notifying parents of closures before setting out, if they were unsure.

Gritting is taking place across Derbyshire but there are still roads closed across the county including Church Road, Quarndon, A628 Woodhead Pass, A57 Snake Pass and A6024 Woodhead Road.

A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice was in place until 11am on Tuesday, November 19.
