List of eight Staffordshire flood alerts as river levels to remain high for days
A total of eight flood alerts are in place across Staffordshire as river levels are set to remain high for days. The Environment Agency says areas ranging from Stoke-on-Trent to Stafford and the Moorlands could be affected by flooding on Tuesday (October 1).
The agency issues three types of warnings, with an alert meaning that flooding is possible and that people should prepare. There are then flood warnings, when flooding is expected, and severe flood warnings, when flooding could cause a risk to life and significant disruption to communities.
There are no flood warnings or severe flood warnings for Staffordshire, but eight flood alerts are in place. On the alert for the River Trent in Stoke-on-Trent in particular, the Environment Agency says: "Flooding is affecting low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Trent between Norton Green and Darlaston including Stoke-on-Trent, Lyme Brook between Newcastle-under-Lyme and Hanford, Fowlea Brook at Stoke-on-Trent and Ford Green Brook. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours, so we expect river levels to continue to rise overnight.
