A close eye is being kept on rivers and brooks across Derbyshire after Monday's (September 30) persistent rain led to nine flood alerts, meaning that flooding is possible, being issued from the north to the south of the county. A yellow weather warning for rain was issued by the Met Office on Sunday, which came into force at 8am on Monday morning and lasts through to 3am on Tuesday (October 1).

It is likely there will be more rainfall across the county beyond that time and the Environment Agency has said: "Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until later on Tuesday night. We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid contact with flood water and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."
