Little Mix Break Another Spice Girls Chart Record In Australia

Congratulations Little Mix! The British girl group have broken another long-standing chart record this week.

The vocal quartet – featuring Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock – are now the most certified girl group of all time in Australia, after their latest sassy single, Hair, went platinum.

Music artists qualify for a platinum certification when more than 70,000 copies of their singles and/or albums are shipped to retailers – and this marks the group’s 17th ARIA certification. Not bad, eh?

The group went triple platinum with their debut single Wings back in 2012, and have since overtaken the Spice Girls’ previous record of 16 certified singles in Australia.

This is the second time that Little Mix have claimed a major chart record from the 90’s pop group, after earning the highest debut US chart position with their first album, DNA, in 2013 – an achievement previously held by the Spice Girls.

Back in Blighty, Little Mix’s latest album, Get Weird, debuted at number two becoming their highest charting record and – with sales of 600,000 – has been certified double platinum.

Black Magic, the first single from the album, spent three weeks at number one when it was released last summer – and still features prominently in our “most played” music track list, just sayin’.

More good news as Little Mix have already started working on their fourth studio album, which has a rumoured release of November this year.

Talk about Girl Power!
