Little Mix have opened up on the “terribly emotional” decision to take a hiatus from the performing.

This week saw Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock announce they would be taking a break from Little Mix next year following the end of their Confetti tour.

On The Graham Norton Show, which will air on BBC One tonight after being filmed Thursday evening, the trio spoke about their decision to temporarily go their own ways.

Thirlwall said: “It’s been terribly emotional. We’ve still got the tour next year and a few other bits, but it’s been 10 incredible years and we always said if we’re going to take a little break it would be on an incredible high, at our peak so it seems like the right time.

“We are family and love each other to bits so what’s lovely is that whatever we go off and do we can support each other through it and celebrate each other – it’s a lovely way to do it.”

“It’s time to spread our wings a little bit and do our individual things,” Pinnock added.

In an Instagram post announcing the news, they assured fans they would not be splitting up.

“We have plans for more music, tours and performances in the future,” the message read. “We’ve made so many incredible memories with you all, and we can’t wait to make so many more."

Pinnock has recently made her acting debut as she stars in new festive film Boxing Day while she also welcomed twins with her fiancé, footballer Andre Gray, in August.

She wasn’t the only member of Little Mix to become a first-time mother in 2021 either as Edwards and her partner, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, welcomed son Axel in the same month.

Original group member Jesy Nelson left Little Mix last year citing mental health struggles and has since embarked on a solo career.

In an appearance on The Graham Norton Show back in October, Nelson confirmed she was no longer on speaking terms with her former bandmates.
