Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has revealed she hasn’t spoken to her three former bandmates since she quit the Brit Award-winning pop group more than two years ago.

The singer won the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011 alongside Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, becoming the first band to do so. They went on to have five number one songs and 19 top 10 singles.

Nelson announced her decision to leave the band in 2020 in an Instagram post where she declared that was “ready to embark on a new chapter” in her life – and that being in the successful group had affected her mental health.

In a new interview with The Sun, Nelson said that she has not spoken to her three former bandmates since then, but added: “Never say never, but I honestly wish them the best on their solo journeys now, which is so exciting.

“I think that is what is so exciting about all of us. We are all musically different styles. I think we will all go in our own lane.”

Nelson released her debut solo single 'Boyz' featuring US rapper Nicki Minaj in October 2021. On April 14, she released the haunting ballad 'Bad Thing'.

Despite not speaking to her former bandmates, she still wishes them the best: "I am rooting for all of them. I honestly do wish them all the success as they are all crazy talented."

She also opened up about leaving the band, explaining: “Being in a girl band, you are a machine going all the time. You don’t have a minute to breathe and take time out if you just need space. That was something I struggled with.

“I will say this always, your mental health is the most important thing. You only live once so sometimes you have to stop and look after yourself.”

The singer has previously spoken out about her battle with anxiety. In a 2019 BBC documentary called Odd One Out, she openly explained the abuse she faced on social media and how it affected her mental health.

Nelson recently appeared on an episode of The Great British Bake Off Stand Up to Cancer celebrity special alongside Friends star David Schwimmer and comedians Tom Davis and Rose Matafeo.
