According to an eyewitness report in The Sun, Leigh-Anne had joined her friends at a late-night restaurant in central London when a man started verbally insulting the group.

After the star defended one of her friends, the man in question is said to have directed his abuse towards the 25-year-old before then slapping her clean across the face.

A diner told the newspaper: “He kept saying, ‘if my girlfriend was here, you would both feel really intimidated.’ Leigh-Anne’s friend wasn’t going to let it go. She kept saying ‘no I wouldn’t, no wouldn’t.’

“And Leigh-Anne started going, ‘Maybe I would, maybe I would.’ And he walked around the table and leant into her and gave her a clean slap on the face.”

The pop star is said to have been “initially shocked” before “breaking down in floods of tears” as her friends attempted to comfort her.

It is understood that police were called to the VQ restaurant after Leigh-Anne’s friends dialled 999 but the attacker had already fled from the scene before they arrived.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan police said: “Police were called on Monday, 28 November at around 04:50 hours by a woman who stated that a man had threatened to assault her and had assaulted another woman she was with.

“The suspect made off prior to police arrival. Officers conducted a search of the area and did not locate the suspect.”

No arrests have been made in connection to the incident but enquiries are ongoing to trace the alleged attacker.
