Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock blasts Love Island for its lack of diversity
Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock has blasted this series of Love Island on social media for its lack of diversity.
Despite a dozen new faces entering the villa this week, viewers noted that they’re all white with the show is now displaying a shocking lack of diversity – even more so than it already was.
‘How many weeks in and we are yet to see hardly any diversity in @LoveIsland I’m tuning off! #disappointed #diversity x Leigh,’ her tweet read.
How many weeks in and we are yet to see hardly any diversity in @LoveIsland I’m tuning off! 🤦🏽♀️ #disappointed #diversity x Leigh

The comment came after all the new faces were sent into the villa were white, meaning out of 24 there was barely a handful of non-white people on the show: Samira, Wes, and Josh.
And it seems that despite Leigh-Anne raising the issue on her platform to almost 12 million people, there were plenty of other viewers who have also become fed up with the programme’s failure to include people of different races and backgrounds, rather than the sea of white contestants selected.
So much diversity in the new islanders. I can really tell the difference between them all. Qwhite literally. #loveisland 🙄

I understand I can’t speak on behalf of those of colour, but #loveisland has opened my eyes to the huge problem in society. Diversity is needed. Acceptance is needed. @Mikespencer1 imagine you were in Samira’s position! I would feel so low about myself.

Honestly @ITV need to fix up with the #loveisland casting, like there is no diversity where are our FULL BLACK BOYS AND GIRL, WHERE ARE OUR ASIAN ? COME On show some diversity in body type like someone a little curvier Someone a little thinner ffs in this 2018

HONESTLYYYY #loveisland producers what is going through your heads when you’re chooseing the same person, over and over again. WE NEED SOME DIVERSITY pic.twitter.com/QNHnkgVUc9

But, as usual, there were people on Twitter who thought the opposite and that there was nothing wrong with the apparent lack of diversity within the show.
Love island is a sleazy reality tv show in which ppl shoehorn themselves into relationships so the public can enable them to win 50k.
The cries for diversity are just sooooo silly. Imo

Why are people upset that there’s a low number of ethnic minorities in Love island? Number 1 it’s a reality tv show it’s not meant to be some sort of pioneer for diversity on tv secondly how many minorities even apply for it culturally love island is at complete odds

The love island diversity debate is just a cheap way to signal virtue imo, either that or people really don’t know how to pick their battles

And then some took it in a completely different direction altogether…
u can’t all get mad at love island for no ethnic diversity and ignore the fact that it has no gay people?????
