(Reuters) -Britain's SSE has not made a decision to split itself up, the renewable power and networks group said on Monday in response to a newspaper report that it was close to doing so after months of pressure from U.S. activist investor Elliott. A source close to the situation confirmed that Elliott was one of the top five investors in the blue-chip company, holding a stake just under the 5% threshold that would require formal disclosure. SSE, which declined to comment on Elliott's reported involvement or stakeholding, said it would update investors on growth plans in due course.

Foreign Office minister James Cleverly has warned there is no guarantee that Boris Johnson will convince world leaders to hit a key pledge ahead of the COP26 climate summit. The prime minister wants allies to live up to their promise to give $100 billion a year to developing countries to help cut their carbon emissions. Mr Cleverly said: "We've chosen to be ambitious. Property investor Supermarket Income Reit has purchased six sites, used by some of the UK’s biggest grocers, for a combined price of £113 million. MOSCOW (Reuters) -A student armed with a hunting rifle opened fire at a university in the Russian city of Perm on Monday, killing at least six people and wounding many others, investigators said. Video shown on news websites showed panicked students leaping from first-floor windows to escape Perm State University, around 1,300 km (800 miles) east of Moscow, landing heavily on the ground before running to safety. The gunman was wounded after resisting arrest, and was being treated in hospital, the Investigative Committee law enforcement agency said in a statement.
