Israeli strikes killed dozens of people including children on Sunday in Lebanon and isolated northern Gaza, as the world watched for signs of how the US election might affect the wars between Israel and Iranian-backed militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Yesterday's key developments:

  • Israeli air strikes early on Saturday hit a school and tents housing displaced people in Gaza, killing at least 14 people, including women and children, Gaza's civil defence agency said.

  • Qatar's foreign ministry said its efforts in mediating a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas were "currently stalled".

  • Several Syrian soldiers were injured in an Israeli air "aggression" in the vicinity of the city of Al-Safira near Aleppo and Idlib, state media reported.

  • The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza says at least 43,603 people have been killed in more than 13 months of war in the devastated enclave.
