One couple will not be back next week, so everyone will be hoping to impress the judges.

Comedian Chris McCausland earned a standing ovation from head judge Shirley Ballas in week two of Strictly Come Dancing. He did the Foxtrot with Dianne Buswell Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy by The Tams, and impressed (nearly) all of the judges with his dancing skills, while Ballas praised Buswell's training skills, were are impressive considering the comedian is blind.

Ballas praised him as “an example to every celebrity upstairs when it comes to footwork”.

Fellow judge Motsi Mabuse said the slow foxtrot is one of the most difficult dances but she felt he made it look “so easy” while Anton Du Beke said “you are just wonderful”.

However, Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec delivered "the dance of the night" with their showstopping Viennese Waltz to Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore, which earned the first nines of the series with a total score of 35 which put them atop of the week 2 leaderboard. Their score of 30 from last week puts them top of the cumulative leaderboard from both weeks.

JB Gill and Amy Dowden also won praise from the judges on Strictly Come Dancing once again with their Cha Cha to Closer by Ne-Yo cementing their place as early favourites to win this year's Glitterball trophy.

They scored 27 points, taking their cumulative total for the first two weeks to 58. Motsi Mabuse called their dance, which they did in slick 1930s inspired black and white suits, "very entertaining".

Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez also impressed Strictly Come Dancing lead judge Shirley Ballas with their Foxtrot to Man! I Feel Like A Woman! by Shania Twain on week two of Strictly. Despite not having any dancing experience, the TV doctor was praised by Ballas who said, "from the waist up, you are one of the strongest, most dynamic personalities in the competition". Her lower body work left a little to be desired though, and they earned 19 points - same as last week.

Tasha and Aljaž now sit atop of the leaderboard after two weeks, with Toyah and Neil sitting at the bottom and most at risk of leaving the competition on Sunday.

However, it's over the public now who will have the final say with their votes. The two couples with the lowest votes will head into a dance off on Sunday night's show.

Vito and Sarah - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

It's the final dance of the night - and it's a Paso Doble.

Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola are rounding out week 2 with a dance soundtracked to a stripped-back version of Freed From Desire by Gala, Molella and Phil Jay.

It's a suitably epic way to end the evening. Dramatic beams of light frame the duo before a sea of swirling purple lights envelops them as their Paso Doble gets underway.

Sarah ends things on the floor in a suitably dramatic pose.

"That was a showstopper," smiles Tess. Craig agreed: "That got me going darling," he says candidly. "It had attack, power passion, everything you'd expect... you are impressive."

The rest of the judges agreed. Sarah and Vito are on a roll!

  • 21 for Pete and Jowita

Despite those glowing reviews, the judge's scoreboards were a bit lukewarm for Pete and Jowita.

    • Craig - 4

    • Motsi - 6

    • Shirley - 6

    • Anton - 6

21 is their week 2 score. 38 is their overall score.

The judges weigh in on Pete and Jowita.

"It was a little bit more lumberjack than cow boy... but you got the story right and the lifts were fantastic," says Craig, who found some bits to like in the air's American Smooth.

"This chemistry is too hot to handle. Yee-ha to that," says Shirley.

All this and it's only week 2.

  • Pete and Jowita leap to success

Pete and Jowita - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Pete and Jowita - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał have clearly struck up a bond in the rehearsal room over the past week - but will it pay off during this week's dance?

Transforming Strictly's dancefloor into a hay-covered barn, the pair dance an American Smooth to I Had Some Help by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen.

It's certainly imbued with a certain romantic spark - and even featured an epic leap.

    "That was risky!" says Tess.

  • 31 for Shayne and Nancy

    Time for some more scorecards:

    • Craig - 7

    • Motsi - 8

    • Shirley - 8

    • Anton. -8

Nancy and Shayne - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Nancy and Shayne - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu are next to lace up their dancing shoes for a Tango soundtracked to The Door by Teddy Swims.

Shayne had to battle some online bullying this week so he's hoping it won't affect his time on the dancefloor.

Nancy is dressed in emerald green and gold while Shayne opts for a black suit and crushed velvet dinner jacket as their dance begins.

There are slides, theatrics and some slick moves. What will the judges think?

"You held your head high, you did the job," says an impressed Shirley. "I want you to involve yourself in the dance," says Anton, offering advice. "You are the one to watch," adds Craig with Motsi saying it was "a great comeback for those haters."

    That's Shayne and Nancy: 1. Trolls: 0

  • First 9s of the series

Tasha's dad was sobbing watching her dance, prompting a ballroom full of 'bawwwws.'

    The scores?

    • Craig - 8

    • Motsi - 9

    • Shirley - 9

    • Anton - 9

It's our first 9s of the series so far and the highest ever score for a Viennese Waltz, according to Claudia. That's a total of 35 and an overall score of 65.

    All eyes on this pair.

  • "That was the dance of the night"

"I'd like you to do something bad so I can mark you down," says an incredulous Anton. "Your frame is immaculate... your footwork is gorgeous...

"If I could give you 12, I'd probably give you 12."

Craig says Anton's getting too emotionally involved but admits it was "the dance of the night." Motsi agrees with that sentiment.

"That was quite emotional actually," adds Shirley. It was - and that feedback has moved Tasha to tears.

How will this affect the scores?

  • Tasha and Aljaž deliver beautiful Waltz

Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Now it's time to welcome Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec dancing a Viennese Waltz to Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore.

Sparkles follow the pair as they move across a midnight blue Strictly stage, with an elegant spin starting things off. It looks like something ripped from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Aljaž is dressed in sleek black, while Tasha's flowing blue dress adds to the moves.

They clearly enjoyed every minute of it. As did Motsi and Shirley who both on their feet by the end of the dance,

  • Top scores for Montell

Unfortunately, Montell's grandmother passed away today, adding an emotional element to tonight's dance.

    • Motsi - 7

    • Shirley - 7

    • Anton - 8

That's a total of 30, making their overall score so far 56 after week's one 26. That puts them top of the week 2 leaderboard alongside Wynne and Katya.

Dancing the samba to Eleni Foureira's Fuego, Gladiators' star Montell Douglas and her pro-partner Johannes Radebe are both dressed in vibrant reds and purples as they set the Strictly stage alight.

Hips twirl, fireworks fire and spins erm... spin - the pair are clearly having a blast and even make room for Montell's signature Gladiators move mid-dance.

    Nice!

  • 21 for Nick and Luba

What about Nick and Luba's scores?

    • Craig - 5

    • Motsi - 5

    • Shirley - 5

    • Anton - 6

21 is their total, making their total so far 39 after last week's 18.

  • "You have potential"

"It was a little bit ploddy... but you have potential," says Craig leading Nick and Luba's reviews. Motsi agreed. "Practice, practice, practice... we'll get there."

Shirley points out that the duo only had 16 hours to get this together and admits it was amazing.

"I thought it was amazing," says Anton. "In your language, this house has been built on a very strong foundation."

Nick'll take those results, telling the judges: "I'm over the moon."

  • Nick forgets injury for American Smooth

Nick Knowles and Luba Mushtuk - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Nick Knowles and Luba Mushtuk - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

DIY SOS star Nick Knowles injured his arm this week but together with his partner Luba Mushtuk, he's managed to power through it for an American Smooth scored to Blur's Brit-pop hit Parklife.

Dressed in blue, the duo careen across the stage.

Nick looks a little sore by the time it all comes to an end but will it be enough to impress the judges.

  • "Neil drilled my feet"

"Neil drilled my feet," says Toyah, commenting on how her professional partner helped her to up her game and inviting Neil to prompt a little awkward innuendo moment.

Meanwhile, the judges have selected their scoreboards.

    • Craig -3

    • Motsi - 5

    • Shirley - 5

    • Anton - 5

That's a total of 18, making their series total 30. Will it be enough to save Toyah from finding herself in the bottom slot again?

  • "A thousand times better than last week"

"This was a thousand times better than last week," says Anton, who clearly enjoyed Toyah and Neil's jive.

Craig says it was flat-footed but admitted that "I love, love love your energy. Your abandonment in this number sold it."

Motsi agreed with the missteps but commended the duo's commitment. "That was much better than last week," smiles Shirley. "You did very well."

Week one is officially a distant memory for Toyah!

  • Toyah and Neil hit the dance floor

Toyah and Neil - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Toyah and Neil - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

"I felt like a rabbit in the headlights. I've got to be honest... it hurt," admits Toyah Wilcox, reflecting on the fall-out from week one.

Despite this, the iconic singer has high hopes for this week's cowboy-themed jive - one that starts as she cues Ike & Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits on a retro jukebox.

Toyah sparkles in gold and tassels, with Neil wearing a black cowboy outfit, with added tassel embellishments.

The jive ends with Toyah rodeo riding and swinging her cowboy hat in the air.

    Yee-ha.

  • 27 for Jamie and Michelle

We've had the feedback but what about the scores?

  • Jamie and Michelle deliver a sensual Rumba

Jamie Borthwick and Michell Tsiakkas - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Jamie Borthwick and Michell Tsiakkas - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Dancing to Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine, Jamie Borthwick and Michelle Tsiakkas's Rumba is bathed in sensual pink and purple lights, evoking an evening feel.

"You were in the zone," says Tess, before the judges offer their thoughts.

"I really appreciate that you danced this dance with no fear," says Shirley, kicking off the reviews. "I saw lots of delicious things here... keep working on the flow in between but that has pleased me no end."

Anton enjoyed it too. "I danced in a vest once. Killed the atmosphere immediately... that rumba on the other hand did work"

Craig thought it lacked an emotional connection. "It felt like you were dancing by numbers," he lamented. Motsi liked it though "I thought you did a man's job in a rumba, you were there for [Michelle], you lifted her... I loved that."

  • Chris and Dianne impress

"They've put me on 10 minutes after the Liverpool game ends... that's half of my core voter group," jokes Chris as the judges prepare their scorecards.

    Speaking of which...

    • Craig - 6

    • Motsi - 7

    • Shirley - 8

    • Anton - 8

That's 29 in total and 52 in total after week one's score of 23.

Chris earns a standing ovation from Shirley - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Chris earns a standing ovation from Shirley - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

"Everyone's on their feet... I think you're a popular man" says Tess, starting the feedback session.

"You made that look so easy," says Motsi, commenting on how hard the pair's dance was to pull off. "Your teaching's off the scale," adds Shirley, commending Dianne's training techniques. "Week 2 you are an example to every celebrity that's upstairs when it comes to footwork."

    High praise!

Anton was equally impressed: "You are just wonderful," he smiles.

"Your fingers bothered me," grumbles Craig, picking holes. "It might have been a nice idea to actually smile through the dance... but I love your spirit and your musicality is beyond."

  • Chris and Dianne Foxtrot

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Dancing to Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy by The Tams, Chris and Dianne start off on a yellow park bench before Foxtrotting across the stage and framed by colourful rainbow motifs.

It's a more subtle performance than the one they delivered last week but the crowd seems to be enjoying it just as much. Chris even catches Dianne during a quick fall-back on the park bench.

The crowd go wild, but will the judges too?

  • "No technique" says Chris of Craig

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell are next doing a Foxtrot and Chris has some early feedback for Craig, giving him a score of 2.

Sam and Nikita - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Sam and Nikita - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Great Gatsby! Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin's Charleston pulls out all the stops for a hockety-themed trek across the stage.

It's all hand swinging and fancy footwork. Sadly, Craig noticed a big issue.

"Your synchronisation was out," he says - but he was impressed by the footwork.

Sync issues dominated the remaining judges' feedback but they did enjoy their style.

  • Top scores for JB and Amy

JB and Amy impressed the judges.

    • Craig - 7

JB Gill and Amy Dowden - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
JB Gill and Amy Dowden - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

    Time for some judgment.

"I could see the hard work," begins Motsi. "The look, the slickness, the coolness... it was all there and very entertaining."

"There were parts that I loved and parts I think you could work a little bit harder on," adds Shirley, offering some constructive criticism - "but I like it," she says, ending her review with a smile.

"Work on your fluidity," suggests Anton. "All the nuts and bolts are there... you could be terrific."

Craig suggested elements of their dance "looked spikey... but those hip rolls blew me away."

  • JB and Amy Cha Cha to Ne-Yo

JB Gill and Amy Dowden - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
JB Gill and Amy Dowden - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Next up, we have JB Gill and Amy Dowden dancing the Cha Cha to Ne-Yo hit Closer.

It's a bit Bugsy Malone, with JB and Amy dressed in monochrome suits and black hats. The latter are ditched as they dance across the Strictly stage, adorned with blue and silver lighting, ending by sitting back to back.

The pair embrace in a hug after the routine ends.

    • Anton - 8

That's 30 in total, the highest score of the night so far. Making their total for the series so far 56 after last week's 26.

    Not bad at all!

  • Hugs all round for Wynne

Wynne hugs Anton - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)
Wynne hugs Anton - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

"That had a bit of everything... It's all coming together. You just make me light up," says a clearly-impressed Shirley. She even gave Wynne a hug. Is that worth more than a Paul Hollywood handshake? We're not sure on the conversion rate but we'll check with the BBC.

Anton has always wished that he'd done that dance on the show. "Well done you," he says, equally impressed.

"There weren't very many heel leads," gripes Craig. We're beginning to think he's intentionally picky. He did have some positive stuff to say: "You know what you do have, command, control and you were leading that dance."

"Very demure, very mindful," adds Motsi. It was, wasn't it?

Craig gets kissed by Wynne - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Wynne also stepped up to give kisses to Motsi and Craig in a fun moment of levity.

    Will the scores reflect that?

  • Wynne and Katya class it up

Dancing the Viennese Waltz to The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss II, Wynne Evans and Katya Jones follow up Paul and Karen's BBQ with a little bit of Strictly class.

Dressed to the nines, Wynne looks like a Downton Abbey extra in a slick black-suit with tails, with Katya in an elegant and flowing glittery pink dress.

    Fancy indeed.

  • "Paul's blinder than I am"

Paul and Karen's score is here.

    • Craig - 2

    • Motsi - 4

    • Shirley - 4

    • Anton - 5

That gives them 15. Together with last week's 17, their total so far is 32.

Chris McCausland's next and he thinks his chances are good: "By the way things are going, I think Paul's blinder than I am," he quips.

  • "Like a comedy dance at a wedding"

Time to hear from the judges again

"Why do I get so excited when you're about to dance? smiles Anton. "This thrilled me no end...I don't want to talk to you about the technique because there wasn't any," he laughs - and so do the audience.

"Obviously, the drink at the BBQ gave you the confidence to do that," deadpans Craig, adding: "It was like a comedy dance at a wedding."

Harsh - yet he did like the lifts.

"You are entertaining us, you're full on... keep up the energy," says Motsi. Shirley agreed "That was pure entertainment."

Maybe Paul and Karen's entertainment factor will help them scrap through tonight's show?

Wearing a flowery shirt and leopard print pants, Paul Merson spins up a firey, BBQ-themed salsa with his dance partner Karen Hauer, scored to Pitbull hit Fireball.

We've never seen a mirror ball BBQ before - but they have one on stage. It's all smiles from the duo too. They're clearly having fun.

  • Judges score Punam and Gorka

    The judges share their scorecards:

    • Craig - 4

    • Motsi - 5

    • Shirley - 4

    • Anton - 5

That gives them 19 - the same as last week's score, bringing their total so far to 38.

  • The judges chime in

Punan and Gorka get a mixed bag of reviews.

"I do feel like you did not do so badly..." says Motsi in her half-good, half-bad critique. "You need to get that tone in the body to control your feet and shine on throughout he whole routine," she adds.

"I think you're probably one of the strongest dynamic personalities in the competition," says Shirley beforeadmitting "I can't quite take it seriously with [Gorka] in his PVC trousers..."

Anton called it a bit "floppy" and Craig agreed "It was verging on invertebrate, darling."

What will the scores be? We're about to find out.

  • Punam and Gorka dance a Foxtrot

  • Gorka wears a kilt

Punam Krishan and Gorka Márquez are up next with a Foxtrot Shania Twain hit I Feel Like a Woman!

    • Anton - 6

That gives Tom and Nadia a total of 20, added to last week's 23 - making their total 43.

Tom and Nadiya - Strictly Come Dancing (BBC)

Sparkles, tassells, glitter... Tom and Nadia's disco-themed Cha Cha had it all - even a pair of torn trousers as Nadia's pants came apart mid-dance.

The pair ignited Saturday Night Fever during their second routine, ending in flares and mini-fireworks.

"Who doesn't love a bit of Boogie Wonderland?" says Tess.

Shirley was pleased with Tom learning from last week's feedback.

""It was a very dynamic performance," says Anton but Craig wasn't. Pleased: "If you're going to do it, do it properly. Hips were very stiff."

"I thought you put in a great performance" says Motsi.

  • Tom and Nadia Cha Cha

First up, it's Olympian Tom Dean and his partner Nadiya Bychkova dancing a Cha Cha to Earth, Wind & Fire's disco hit Boogie Wonderland.

A pre-dance package showed the pair bonding over a game of mini-golf but will tonight's dance be a hole in one?

  • It's all go

"Tomorrow night, two couples will face the dance off..." says Claudia, dazzling in a sparkly green dress

"Not only do our couples have to impress you at home, but they have to impress the judges," adds Tess, in a flowing pink outfit.

The judges are here and now the couples are making their way onto the stage. Not all will make it through to next week.

  • The stakes are high

"The reality is, one of us is going home..."

Strictly’s second live show has started with a bang. After an intense intro montage showcasing the couples hard at work practising their dance moves, the stakes of this week's episode were made clear. At the end of tonight's show, someone's going home.

    Gulp.

  • Time for week 2

Welcome back. It's been an eventful week, from an injured Nick Knowles to Pete Wicks and Jowita showcasing a suspiciously close bond that’s been called BFF “love”... make no mistake: Strictly fever has officially taken hold.

Last week saw JB Gill and Amy Dowden top of the scoreboard with 31 points, while Toyah Wilcox and Neil Jones were at the bottom with a judge’s score of just 12.

Meanwhile, comedian Chris McCausland’s popularity has skyrocketed following his Cha Cha debut dance with Dianne Buswell last week, making him among the bookies top favourites to win this year’s competition.

However, week 2 is ready to ruffle some feathers, with one celeb packing up their dancing shoes and heading home. Tense, right?

Who will it be? Time to find out.
