Liverpool have already made Gary Neville look foolish after Man United humiliation
Liverpool have already made Gary Neville look foolish with their convincing victory at Old Trafford.
Life at Anfield has started swimmingly for new boss Arne Slot who has enjoyed two victories since arriving at the helm; 0-2 against Ipswich on the opening weekend and 2-0 against Brentford a week later. Understandably so, many fans were unsure what to expect from the man who replaced legendary manager Jurgen Klopp.
A quick fire Luis Diaz double during a seven minute spell just before half-time gave the Reds breathing space to strut their stuff. The other side of the interval Mohammed Salah made it three to the dismay of the Red Devils supporters who could heard booing their players during the second half.
Former Manchester United captain Neville did not have high hopes for the Reds before the season began, even omitting them from his top four predictions before the season commenced, he said: "Not sure [about top four]. My surprise is Liverpool won't finish in the top six. Is there a risk with what Klopp got out of that group last season, is there a risk that Liverpool just purely because of what happened with other clubs where managers of that ilk, is there a risk they could tank?" Neville told The Stick to Football podcast.
"It won't have helped the changing room losing out on that player I don't think. The older players will be thinking 'what's going on here?'. It will unnerve you when you miss out on a player you think you're going to get."
Of course, his prediction may have had an element of bias or jest to it but Liverpool’s trouncing of their arch-rivals at Old Trafford has gone a long way to convincing many pundits and fans alike of their potential to at least qualify for the top four.
