Arne Slot has transitioned seamlessly into coping with midweek fixtures on top of Premier League demands for Liverpool as his impressive start to life at Anfield continues. After a banana-peel schedule including an away trip to AC Milan as well as the visit of West Ham and Bournemouth, the Dutchman has come through unscathed.

After defeat to Nottingham Forest threw some questions his way, Slot has made the result look like the exception rather than rule for Liverpool, with no immediate pattern to worry about. He will hope that the goalscoring form on show in the past two weeks now continues against Wolves on Saturday.

Amid this all, he is having to remain the public figure tasked with negotiating everything related to Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold's future, not to mention Virgil van Dijk. Everything shown by Slot so far indicates that he is more than up to the challenge there.

Here, the Echo looks at the latest headlines around Liverpool that Slot may well be called up to explain away.

Alexander-Arnold makes contract decision

Liverpool have been given a huge boost to their hopes of tying Alexander-Arnold down to a new contract. The 25-year-old defender currently faces an increasingly uncertain future at Anfield, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

According to Football Insider, though, Alexander-Arnold is more than happy to stay at his boyhood club for the foreseeable future. The report states that the England international has 'put the ball in Liverpool’s court', eager for the Merseyside outfit to match his personal ambitions.

Back in 2018, the right-back told The Times that he wants to stay at Anfield for the duration of his career. He said: "There is nowhere else I’d rather be than Liverpool. Somewhere I want to stay for the rest of my career is Liverpool. It’s what I’ve always dreamed of. Liverpool are special."

Gordon set to agree fresh deal with Newcastle

Meanwhile, the Reds have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Newcastle and England forward Anthony Gordon as he reportedly looks set to sign a new contract with the Magpies.

Newcastle were close to selling Gordon to Liverpool at the end of June in a deal worth £75m as they explored avenues of how to adhere to the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules. However, a deal never materialised as the St James' Park outfit - who would have signed Joe Gomez in a separate £45m deal - raised enough funds before the June 30 deadline.

Liverpool, though continued to be linked with a move for Gordon later in the summer, with Luis Diaz's future at the club uncertain. But it now appears that Gordon is ready to commit his future to the project at St James' Park as the Mail claims an agreement on a fresh deal is close.

Gordon's current deal expires in 2026.
