Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was stretchered off during Liverpool's Champions League clash against Roma after suffering an early injury at Anfield.

The midfielder went down in agony in just the 15th minute of the semi-final first-leg match on Tuesday night after appearing to hurt his knee as he slid in to win the ball back from Aleksandar Kolarov.

After a few minutes down on the pitch, Liverpool manager was forced to substitute Oxlade-Chamberlain off for Georginio Wijnaldum, with the club medical staff taking several more minutes to strap the England international onto a stretcher and slowly walking him down the players' tunnel.

The sight of Oxlade-Chamberlain being forced off at Anfield will be a worry for England manager Gareth Southgate, who admitted this week he already knows which players he wants to take with him to this summer's World Cup Finals in Russia.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown a steady development since leaving Arsenal for Liverpool last summer, and has scored five goals in all competitions for the Reds.
