Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s DNA to win big trophies can counter Real Madrid’s confidence going into their Champions League final in Kiev.

The German and his side meet a Madrid team going for a third successive European Cup, and a 13th in the club’s history, in Kiev on Saturday night.

While Liverpool have not played in the showpiece final in over a decade, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and the rest of the squad can add a sixth European title to the club’s honours list.

While Klopp concedes that his side cannot attempt to play at Madrid’s level, he knows the European pedigree on Merseyside can counter the Galacticos confidence.

"It is very important and I am pretty sure in a second before the game, Real Madrid will be more confident than we are. But the game doesn't end in that second, it only starts,” Klopp said.

"They never played us and we are Liverpool, not only just a really good football team but this club has in its DNA to go for the big things.

"The experience they have is a big advantage 100 per cent to feel confident but, in the game, experience does not help all the time.

"We cannot try to fight on their level but tactics in football are there to bring a better opponent to your level and when they are on your level you can beat them."
