Liverpool 'approached' Real Madrid over duo as club issue blunt transfer stance
Even though the summer transfer window is closed, Liverpool are continuing to be linked with potential new signings. The next opportunity for the Reds to strengthen their squad will be when the window reopens once again in January.
Liverpool completed two deals during the summer transfer window, with Federico Chiesa arriving in a £12.5 million transfer from Juventus. The Reds also agreed to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, with the goalkeeper set to spend the remainder of the campaign on loan with the La Liga club.
The summer also saw Liverpool try to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. However, the Spain international decided against moving to Anfield and instead chose to remain with his boyhood club.

The ECHO has taken a look at some of the latest Liverpool transfer rumours that have generated headlines over the last 24 hours.
Liverpool reportedly expressed an interest in signing two Real Madrid players during the summer transfer window. According to TBR Football, the Reds "checked in" on Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo at the start of the transfer window.
However, despite Liverpool seemingly showing an interest in Tchouameni and Rodrygo, no offers were made for either player. Instead, it has been claimed that the Reds have an "admiration" for both players but were told by Madrid that they would not allow either of the duo to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.
Reports in previous transfer windows have claimed that Liverpool had an interest in signing Rodrygo. In terms of Tchouameni, though, the Reds did try to sign the midfielder in 2022 before he left Monaco in favour of signing for Madrid.
Elsewhere, Liverpool have been informed of Brentford's stance regarding the future of Bryan Mbeumo. The Reds have been linked with the forward in recent days amid claims the Anfield club could look to agree a deal when the transfer window reopens in January.
According to Football Insider, Brentford have stated that they have no plans to allow Mbeumo to leave the Gtech Community Stadium anytime soon. The report claims the Bees are aware of links that clubs such as Liverpool could try and sign the 25-year-old in January, but have issued a clear stance that they are not willing to sell Mbeumo in the New Year.
