Liverpool bakery shares cakes everyone loves and few no one buys

A bakery and gelato store has revealed which of its items sell out and the few that go unnoticed.

Antonietta's opened in 2017 in the heart of Liverpool city centre. Antonietta, who runs the business, said her dream was always to open a cake shop and when the opportunity arose, she decided to move her cake lab into her family's business in the Italian Quarter.

Antonietta's now supplies over 120 different dessert and cake shops in Merseyside with authentic, artisan Italian gelato, granita and sorbet. The products are a key part of the Italian Quarter's bustling food scene but can also be found within Renshaw Street Food Market, Gran Caffe on Duke Street, Botanico in Woolton and soon to be in Gran Caffe on Lark Lane.

Antonietta's is a dream for anyone with a sweet tooth or planning to indulge in their guilty side. The business confirmed to the ECHO which cakes and gelatos were top sellers across the company and the few that don't catch the public's eye.

Antonietta's revealed Liverpool's favourite cake is actually an Amaretto cake, followed by vegan pistachio cake and vegan lemon cake. Familiar items including black forest cake and Nutella cake make it to the top five.

The best-selling gelatos aren't your typical vanilla or chocolate, but pistachio, rouche, Amarena cherry, vegan strawberry sorbet and vegan hazelnut gelato.

Antonietta's also revealed the spongey delights that don't catch customers' eye as often. The most underrated cakes they struggle to sell are raspberry and butter Victoria sponge cake, carrot cake, and pica-nut and caramel cake.
