Calum Scanlon has suffered another injury setback with the Liverpool loanee facing several months on the sidelines. Scanlon last month joined Millwall on a season-long loan and made his Championship debut from the bench in the home defeat to Luton Town last week.

But the 19-year-old left-back has suffered a recurrence of a back injury that has previously ruled him out for lengthy periods

Scanlon has now returned to Liverpool for treatment on this issue and will be out until November at the earliest.

“He has got a stress fracture in his back, which is a recurring injury from previous," said Millwall head coach Neil Harris after his team's 1-1 draw at QPR on Saturday.

"That is unfortunate. We’re very disappointed to lose him because he is something different from what we have already got in the squad – as a very attack-minded full-back.

“He has gone back to Liverpool to be treated in the short-term and mid-term. He is going to be rescanned at six weeks and then we’ll have a better idea whether he is going to be back soon after that or going to be an extended period.

“Anything beyond that is not a discussion at the moment.”

Scanlon made his Liverpool debut last October from the bench in the Europa League home win over Toulouse and also featured as a substitute in the defeat at Union Saint-Gilloise two months later. He has twice been in a Premier League matchday squad.
