Liverpool suffered a first defeat of the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon as Callum Hudson-Odoi's strike late in the second half secured all three points for Nottingham Forest. For the City Ground outfit, it was also a first win at Anfield since 1969 and one that was celebrated extravagantly in the away dressing room at Anfield.

However, the Reds will have the opportunity to bounce back from the weekend's disappointment on Tuesday night when they travel to the San Siro to face AC Milan. It is the first of eight games Arne Slot's side will play in the league phase of the Champions League.

In the meantime, the ECHO takes a look at the latest news, rumours and headlines surrounding the Reds.

Liverpool among clubs eyeing Man Utd academy graduate

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Lille and England midfielder Angel Gomes, who left Manchester United to join the French outfit four years ago. Gomes' impressive form in Ligue 1 in recent seasons saw him earn his maiden call-up to the England national team earlier this month for games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

However, the midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and is being linked with a return to the Premier League, with Football Insider reporting that the United academy graduate was scouted by the Reds during the Three Lions' Nations League fixture against Finland last week.

As well as Liverpool, Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be keeping tabs on Gomes, who can sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of Ligue 1 from January 1.

Joel Matip transfer terms set

Former Liverpool defender Joel Matip is reportedly weighing up offers from Premier League clubs and other European sides as he seeks his next move within the game.

The centre-back is currently without a club having left Liverpool at the end of last season following nine years of service, though could soon mark his return to action.

The latest report from The Mirror has indicated the 33-year-old has "attracted interest" from Fulham, Bournemouth and West Ham United and is "favouring a return" to England. It is said the 2019 Champions League winner is searching for a two-year deal, as opposed to a short-term contract, which has placed some overseas clubs on "red alert" as they look to strike a deal for his services.

Bayer Leverkusen are listed as one club outside of England considering putting forward an offer for the free agent, though it remains to be seen just where the ex-Cameroon international ends up.
